Why do teenagers embrace the emo fashion trends?

Emo hairstyles are part of the whole emo fashion scene and are widely seen as you walk down the street or through the mall. This anti-fashion fad is a way for teenagers and adults to shun popular society’s rules of fashion and create styles for their own. The people who have emo hairstyles and embrace emo fashion are typically seen as outcasts and do not want to be seen as clones of society. Their hairstyles are usually done themselves or by a friend and are their way of showing originality and non-conformity to society.

Emo hairstyles that girls embrace are typically short with straight bangs. These girls also usually dye their hair black or a light blonde to move away from the “normal” hairstyle movement. Their hair may be cut to slope over the eye or partially cover one eye. They enjoy wearing clips in the front of their hair to hold their bangs back. Girls typically cut their own hair or cut their friend’s hair and they enjoy being seen as outcasts and not as slaves to fashion.

Boys typically have shaggy haircuts, but do not necessarily dye their hair black. They will normally comb their hair forward as to have bangs and hair in their face. Their hair is usually long and reaches their shirt collar. Emo hairstyles usually look unkempt and may look oily, but that is what they are trying for in their style. They like their hair to be very natural and will either cut it themselves or have a friend cut it.

Emo fashion usually includes many piercings – ears, nose, eyebrows, and anywhere else. Jewelry is an important accessory choice and may include hemp and other natural types of jewelry choices. Their clothing is usually purchased at a thrift store and they enjoy the fact that they are not embracing today’s fashion trends and styles.

Although many adults look upon teenagers that embrace emo fashion and emo hairstyles as slackers, they are usually very intelligent but they just want to be seen as apart from society. Being all-natural is a very important facet of the emo life, including being a vegetarian. Their music is special to them too. The fact that they are seen as different from society is part of the charm for them. They do not want to be seen as a cookie cutter type of teenager. Emo hairstyles and fashion are an extension of this!
